The Degree Show tattler
The entire week before had been of a completely surreal nature. Last minute disasters, broken frames, lost drawings, faulty wiring, botched projectors, and uneven paint jobs. Tempers were running high and we were constantly running into walls.
This, as everyone reminisces nostalgically, is the high buzz of the thesis days. Those that have yet to experience it dread it; those who are going through it would rather that at least ONE thing should go as planned per day; those who have gone past it say it was the best of times it was the worst of times but they were times that they’ll never forget.
And so we pulled through…and we put on a pretty decent show. The display was on till the 16th of January at the Zahoor ul Akhlaq Gallery, NCA.
but the juries..aaah. There were shouts and tears and muffled curse words and full-on crying binges from most quarters. I, however, surprisingly made it through without biting a jurors head off or going off into major-attack mode. or so I think! I was relatively well-behaved (for my standards) and was busy countering the onslaught of severe critique and questions from the jurors. More on that later.
I’ve uploaded the MA (Hons.) Visual Art Degree Show catalogue. The quality of the images etc in the catalogue have been comprised because of the size of the file. It also doesn’t necessarily include all the thesis works and definitely not the Artist Statement that was handed over to the Jurors. Especially in my case, since my work was an on-site installation that could not be photographed in time for the catalogue.
And the delays for getting this catalogue made…that story is for another post! Click here to view the MA (Hons.) Visual Art catalogue
But better yet I have uploaded a whole documentation of the Degree Show along with the artist statements in a powerpoint show. Click here to view the degree show documentation and artist statements.
And if you’re afflicted by facebook you can view the facebook album (privacy level open to all).
So for those who were unable to make it to the show for whatever reason there is, can sit lazily on their chairs and munch through the pictures and documentation online.
